The Analogue Crusader

A Pop-up book and animation built with stories created in community workshops.
Project by Red Room Poetry.
2011

The large pop up book and animation built with poems created in community workshops. Project led by Red Room Poetry. 2011 A collection of Sydney poets were commissioned to run poetry workshops in libraries across Sydney. I attended and collated the poems into a large pop up book and stop motion animation that toured schools and gallerys across the country. The animation tells the story of Alex Malwalski, a travelling story teller. Amidst a changing world Alex collects poetry, in an attempt to preserve the analogue moments in his town, but in his compulsion he quickly finds himself engulfed in a whirring carnival of words.

All components of the book were meticulously hand drawn, cut and assembled. The poems of the community and commissioned poets were both woven into the narrative and cut up to build parts of Fog Town, where the story is set. Alex even meets the commissioned poets Andy Quan, Judith Biship, Eileen Chong and Toby Fitch who appear as portraits in the work.
